NET232 POE is an economical Serial-to-Ethernet cable adapter is powered by the Ethernet cable (POE). The NET232 POE that can quickly and easily be added to any device with a serial port, making that device Web enabled. NET232 is a single port serial server, that converts a serial port to an Ethernet Port, thus removing RS232 cable length limitations, and with the POE support no power supply is required to power the NET232.
The NET232 is easily configured via a web page, and can also be
set up through the serial port. You can use DHCP, AutoIP or assign a Static IP address to the NET232!
There are two basic modes of operation,
"
Redirector" and "
Serial Tunneling".
Redirector Mode:
In Redirector Mode, only one NET232 is needed per
serial device. ComPort Redirector Software (free with purchase) is
installed on your Windows PC to create a "virtual" COM Port (e.g. COM3).
You can then use this COM port in your Software application just as you would
any physical COM port attached to your PC. Create a virtual COM Port for
every NET232 device on your network and connect to them all from a single PC!

Serial Tunneling Mode: In Serial
Tunneling mode, two NET232's are used to create a "Serial Tunnel" over Ethernet.
This can be thought of as cable replacement. Each NET232 is configured to
have a remote IP address that is the other NET232 in the pair. No software
is required to be loaded on a PC. This is also an excellent option for
non-windows PCs or computers. Now you have an infinite length RS232 cable
that is connected over the internet.
