PCAN Developer's core is a high performance Windows System Driver (*.vxd or *.sys). This driver works in Ring-0 (Win 9x/ME) and
the Kernel-Mode (Win NT/2000/XP) of Windows. It is responsible for the establishment of the interface between the CAN application running under Windows and the CAN hardware connected to the PC.
When developing your own software for the use with the PCAN system, a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) is used. The library API functions make it possible to communicate with the Windows system driver. Therefore software written using C, Pascal, Visual-Basic, and Delphi can be easily made functional. The Windows system driver supports any PC hardware adapter purchase through Grid Connect.
The PCAN developer package contains detailed documentation with source-code examples. The Free-License-Driver enclosed in the PCAN-Developer Package may be distributed freely by the licensee in connection with their own PCAN applications. Five drivers are enclosed in the PCAN-Evaluation Package, that may be distributed as described above. Further driver licenses can be purchased. The driver for development purposes, also contained in the PCAN Packages, allows to connect up to 30 PCAN applications to the CAN.
