The EtherTAP2 is an interface device for passive monitoring of Industrial Ethernet traffic. It is an essential tool for Industrial Ethernet engineering and commissioning activities, especially for verifying connections and performance of RT, IRT, and other real-time applications.
The EtherTAP2 significantly reduces the equipment needed for network analysis — only an Atlas, Mercury, or PC and one EtherTAP2 are required. This decreases both the complexity and the points of failure during analysis
The monitor port of managed switches is unreliable for passive monitoring: it can be occupied, it may not forward all traffic, or it may drop messages due to switch overload. Additionally, the Ethernet port of a laptop can be overwhelmed by real-time applications when two channels are merged into one.
The EtherTAP2 solves these issues by providing a dedicated USB link to the monitoring device (such as Atlas2), and streaming captured messages through an accompanying driver that emulates an additional Ethernet port on the monitoring device. Critically, the EtherTAP2 also prevents the Atlas from sending out messages on its own initiative, which could otherwise jeopardize the real-time behavior and security of the monitored network.
• Passive diagnostics — completely invisible to the monitored network
• Cycle time per device measurement (in milliseconds)
• Positive and negative message jitter reporting (as % of cycle time)
• Dropped packet detection and counting
• PROFINET alarm monitoring and reporting
• Message recording in .pcapng format, compatible with Wireshark
• Ethernet traffic statistics for Port A and Port B independently
• Compatible with PROCENTEC Atlas, Atlas2, Mercury, and any Windows/Mac/Linux PC
• Galvanically separated network connections
• DIN-rail mountable
Works with Atlas/Atlas2/Osiris PROFINET Analysis license, as well as with 3rd party solutions Wireshark, ClearSight, OptiView, NetSpector, OmniPeak, NetDecoder, Packetyzer and Ethertest.
