spotWater Detector - An Advanced Water Sensor: 15 ft cable

The AKCP spotWater Detector is a water leak and flood detection sensor that uses patent-pending microprocessor-controlled capacitance measurement technology to identify moisture presence - including distilled and de-ionized water that standard sensors miss.

Water damage is one of the most preventable, and most expensive, threats in data centers, server rooms, and equipment facilities. Most water sensors rely on resistance-based detection, which depends on mineral content. Pure or distilled water has high electrical resistance, so these sensors miss it entirely. The spotWater Detector solves that problem at the source: capacitance measurement detects water regardless of its purity.

The detector's circuit is fully encased in epoxy, allowing it to continue to operate even when submerged. It takes multiple readings per second, providing you continuous visibility rather than periodic snapshots. When a wet condition is detected, alerts go out via SNMP trap or email immediately. The controller retains the alarm state until it is acknowledged via SNMP get. No event goes unlogged, even if conditions change before the alert is read.

Connecting the sensor is straightforward: standard RJ-45 Cat5 cable connects to an AKCP sensorProbe or securityProbe controller, which supplies all necessary power. No separate power source is required. The controller auto-detects the sensor on connection and supports up to 2 spotWater Detectors per unit. Full autosense with disconnect alarm means you'll know if the sensor loses connection, not just if it finds water.

Available options include 15 ft, 60 ft, and 100 ft cable lengths, each of which can be extended up to 500 ft using approved low-capacitance shielded cable or UTP - making it practical for raised-floor environments, large equipment rooms, and distributed monitoring across a facility.
