PCAN-Explorer 7 Add-in for J1939 and J1939 FD Support

The J1939 Add-In for PCAN-Explorer 7 provides structured access to SAE J1939 network communication, supporting both classic CAN and CAN FD–based J1939 implementations.

The SAE J1939 protocol defines communication for diagnostics and control data in utility vehicle networks using 29-bit CAN identifiers. In addition to J1939 based on CAN CC (SAE J1939-21), the add-in supports J1939 FD (SAE J1939-22), enabling higher data rates and improved responsiveness through CAN FD.

All parameter group (PG) and signal parameter (SP) definitions defined by the standard are supported. An included J1939 database provides access to all definitions and parameters, allowing CAN traffic to be interpreted directly according to the protocol specification. With an active maintenance contract, the database is kept up to date as standards evolve.

Custom parameter groups can be defined, including groups based on existing database entries. This allows adaptation to proprietary extensions or application-specific requirements without losing alignment with the standard.

J1939 data is displayed in an interpreted form, simplifying monitoring and analysis of network communication. Messages can be transmitted either as broadcast messages or targeted to individual electronic control units (ECUs). Address claiming is supported, along with multi-packet message handling for larger data transfers.

Diagnostic workflows are supported through a dedicated monitor window for displaying and requesting J1939 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), providing direct visibility into network-reported faults.
