Product Description
The CAN RS232 converter enables seamless 2-way communication between a serial RS232 interface and a CAN FD (ISO 11898) Network. The CAN FD (CAN with Flexible Data-rate) connection, integrated into the RS232 CAN converter, delivers data rates up to 4 Mbps and ensures backward compatibility with standard CAN 2.0.
The CAN232-FD offers flexibility with its dual-mode operation, including tunnel mode and command mode, to meet diverse functional needs.
Tunnel Mode
Tunnel Mode in the CAN RS232 device allows a controller on the CAN bus to stream data to and from a serial device efficiently. For instance, the RS232 CAN system can enable remote access to a serial port on a machine operating on the CAN bus network for configuration, firmware updates, or data logging via an assigned CAN IS. This mode has been enhanced to allow for larger CAN FD packets.
Command Mode
Command Mode in the CAN RS232 solution facilitates sending and receiving CAN messages through the RS232 port with customizable filtering for specific CAN identifiers. Using the CAN RS232 converter, messages can also be read in binary or ASCII format.
No additional software is required in Command Mode, use a terminal emulation program of your choosing to send and receive messages through the terminal window or write your own software applications using the COM port of your PC.
