Product Information

Product Description

Made in the USA

The RS232 CAN FD converter provides 2-way communication between a serial RS232 interface and a CAN FD (ISO 11898) Network. The new CAN FD (CAN with Flexible Data-rate) connection offers higher data rates up to 4 Mbps and is backward compatible with the standard CAN 2.0.

The CAN232-FD operates in either tunnel mode or command mode depending on the desired functionality.

Tunnel Mode

Tunnel Mode allows a controller on the CAN bus to stream data to/from a serial device. For example, a machine operating on the CAN bus network that also had a serial port for configuration, firmware updates, or data logging, could have the port accessed remotely using an assigned CAN ID. This mode has been enhanced to allow for larger CAN FD packets.

Command Mode

This mode allows CAN messages to be sent and received through the RS232 port and offers the ability to filter messages to specify the CAN identifiers you wish to receive. Messages can also be read in binary or ASCII format.

No additional software is required in Command Mode, use a terminal emulation program of your choosing to send and receive messages through the terminal window or write your own software applications using the COM port of your PC.
