How The Internet Of Things Will Enhance Property Security

One of the latest trends that’s receiving a lot of attention in the media is the Internet of Things (IoT), the ability to connect a device to the Internet to monitor things like temperature, lighting and the presence of people. Home builders and property managers can benefit from this trend by adding value to homes with little associated cost through the use of wireless sensors.

Grid Connect Introduces NET232+ Serial Device Server

Grid Connect (gridconnect.com), a manufacturer and distributor of embedded networking products, has introduced the NET232+, the next generation of serial device servers. The NET232+ helps extend the life and utility of existing RS-232 serial devices by providing a simple solution to enable them to connect to the network via Ethernet and TCP/IP

Cellular companies: Making M2M easier

It's a good time to be involved with connected devices. Research firm IDATE forecasts machine-to-machine (M2M) market revenue to reach $54.3 billion by 2017. While Asia is currently the biggest player in the arena, Europe is expected to become the largest market in terms of revenue over the next few years.

Grid Connect Launches Line of Wireless Sensors

Grid Connect (gridconnect.com), a manufacturer and distributor of embedded networking products, entered the rapidly-growing Internet of Things (IoT) industry with the launch of ConnectSense (connectsense.com), a line of wireless sensors to automate home and business. ConnectSense sensors will be showcased at Sensors Expo, Booth 517, June 24-26, in Rosemont, Ill.

Home Security: 10 Things to Consider - DIY vs Professional

I recently purchased my first home. While the property was vacant and owned by the bank, the screens were split in an effort to try to break into the home. Luckily the doors and windows were locked at the time and the offender decided to walk away. This made me consider security when I moved in and I weighed some options.

Doing the “Robot” At FIRST Midwest Regional Tournament

As part of the long-term vision at Grid Connect, we included aspirations to help mentor young engineers in our community. When we heard about Team 3061 – Huskie Robotics at Naperville North High School (which I am an alumni of) we thought it was a great way for Grid Connect to give back.

Real Humans, Expert Support

As part of re-launching our website in March 2012, we worked with Gorilla here in Chicago to help come up with some new messaging to illustrate what Grid Connect is all about. We had a lot of discussions around what set Grid Connect apart from other companies in our industry, and out of that came our new slogan of “Real Humans, Expert Support.”

MODBUS in a Nutshell

MODBUS may seem complicated and confusing to some, but it is a very simple protocol when you understand how it works. MODBUS is a request and response protocol. A MODBUS master will initiate a request and a slave will respond with either an error or the data requested. This is the simple concept of MODBUS.

Serial Device Servers

Serial Device Servers transfer data between a serial port and an Ethernet network. Some of the most common serial interfaces are RS232 (typically DB9) and RS485 (typically 2 wire). The most common Ethernet protocol used in serial device servers is TCP/IP.

Introducing the xPico – Smallest Device Server in the World

xPico is a networking solution that enables Ethernet connectivity on any serial interface. This little, chip sized xPico is the smallest embedded device server in the world. It is a complete device server with a full IP stack and web server. It supports serial data rates up to 921Kbps and has the same functionality and user interface of the xPort.
