The GRID485-MBTCP bridges Modbus RTU/ASCII serial traffic to Modbus TCP. Built-in diagnostics let you monitor and troubleshoot the link directly from the device: live system logs, a real-time Modbus TCP/RTU packet view, and Wireshark-compatible packet capture, all from the built-in web manager. No external sniffer or serial tap required.

The device connects via wired Ethernet or an onboard Wi-Fi radio. A SoftAP mode handles first-time setup: connect to the device's broadcast network and configure it at 192.168.4.1, no existing network required. The RS-485/RS-422 serial interface is wired through a 7-pole Phoenix terminal block. The gateway bridges in either direction:

  • Modbus TCP Server and Serial Client mode — serial Modbus servers on the bus, TCP clients on the network
  • Modbus TCP Client and Serial Server mode — routing table for up to 8 Modbus TCP servers when the serial side is the client

The Logs page streams System, Serial, Network, and Modbus events in real time, filterable by Error, Warning, or Info level, with pause, clear, and download-to-text options. The Modbus Traffic page adds a live packet view (up to 5,000 lines of history) and a one-click PCAPNG export, validated to hold over 4,000 packets during 100-register polling before the oldest entries roll off, for offline analysis in Wireshark.

Configuration runs through the embedded web manager; no software installation is required. Administrators can:

  • Choose a non-default HTTP port if firewall policy requires it
  • Enable or disable Telnet for command-line access
  • Export device configuration to a settings file for backup or cloning to additional units
  • Restore DHCP-on-Ethernet, SoftAP-enabled defaults via factory reset
  • Load firmware updates through the web manager via a .bin file upload
